Progress over Birthday Weekend

• Alec had a neurofeedback session this past Thursday. He is still going to bed well, but sometimes getting up too early or at odd times. This can happen when changing frequencies. The frequency has to be just right in order to proceed with training different areas of his brain.

• See photo above: Alec's home therapist has been drawing a train on a track on his Magnadoodle. For several weeks, he was only drawing the tracks, but wouldn't say what it was. This past Friday, he drew a train on tracks and then said, "chugga-chugga choo choo!"

• His language is improving with leaps and bounds. He is attempting to have back-and-forth exchanges with us, and there is more spontaneous language. One morning over the weekend, Alec crawled into bed and said, "Hi!" -- to which I replied, "Hi!" -- and then Alec said: "How ARE you?!" The next morning he did the same thing with Daddy, but instead ended with, "Whatcha doin'?" :)

• On Sunday, he saw a photo of his birthday cake before it physically arrived. It had his name written in really big, capital letters. He recognized and named each of the letters in order. This was new! Potty training is also going better than ever! Not underwear time yet, but still very exciting...

• The negative: Alec seems to have more awareness, and is expressing himself in physical ways. For the past 6-8 months, this has been escalating, but only happens at home and not school. We are starting up some behavior therapy at a new clinic in town that deals with challenging behaviors like this. Hopefully once that is under control, we'll see even more positive stuff from him :)
